Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) has announced the selection of a 'Delivery Partner' team for the $7bn Austin Light Rail project in Texas, US.

The team, known as LINC Austin, comprises the companies AECOM, Parsons, STV, Turner & Townsend, Ardmore Roderick, and CAS Consulting.

ATP is the local government entity in charge of implementing Project Connect and leading the first phase of the Austin Light Rail project.

The Delivery Partner's responsibilities include programme and project management, construction management, and providing technical services.

As part of the collaborative effort, Parsons, a subconsultant to infrastructure consulting company AECOM, will contribute a wide range of services.

These include systems integration support, interface management, quality management, and design management.

The Austin Light Rail project is expected to transform public transportation in the region, with the introduction of the first light rail system within the city.

Parsons North America Infrastructure president Mark Fialkowski said: “The Austin Light Rail Project presents a pivotal opportunity to meet the city’s increasing travel demand with a reliable, safe, and sustainable transit solution.

“With 80 years of infrastructure experience and a proven track record as a global delivery partner, we look forward to partnering with ATP to deliver a transformative light rail system that will support the city’s mobility and economic growth, creating lasting benefits for generations to come.”

The initial phase of the project encompasses the construction of 9.8 miles of new light rail lines and 15 stations.

This development is expected to offer high-frequency services that will help reduce travel times and alleviate traffic congestion while integrating with existing transit services.

ATP executive director Greg Canally said: “We are thrilled to embark on this transformative journey with our partners and the community.

“The Austin Light Rail project represents a significant step forward in enhancing our city’s transportation infrastructure, promoting sustainability, and improving the quality of life for all Austinites.”

Last month, Parsons secured a $53m contract from the Royal Commission for Riyadh City in Saudi Arabia.
