Rainton Construction (Scotland) has secured a public-realm contract to deliver the Argyle Street West Avenue project in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. 

The contract is worth £5.827m ($7.32m) and is being financed through the Glasgow City Region City Deal funded by both the Scottish and UK national governments. 

The governments are expected to each contribute £500m for infrastructure projects in each country as part of their agreement.

The decision for this development followed an open tender process that attracted five final submissions.  

Argyle Street West Avenue will extend from beneath the Kingston Bridge to the Argyle/Union Streets intersection. 

It will feature upgraded pavements, roads, cycleways, and green infrastructure such as trees and rain gardens.  

Construction is expected to commence in mid-2024 and conclude by late 2025. 

Glasgow City Council leader and Glasgow City Region cabinet chair Susan Aitken said: “Our Avenues programme is focused on making our city centre streets more attractive and easier to get around - with this particular contract set to deliver work that will transform Argyle Street between the junction with Union Street and the Kingston Bridge.”
