Ameresco Sunel Energy begins construction of solar parks in UK

The parks are set to hold a combined annual capacity of 300,000MHh to provide electricity for 85,000 households.

December 08 2023

Ameresco Sunel Energy has commenced construction on the portfolio of multiple solar photovoltaic (PV) park projects of renewable energy producer Sonnedix in the UK.

Appointed as the design-build partner for the project, Ameresco is a joint venture between US-based renewable energy asset developer Ameresco and international contractor Sunel Group.

The five ground-mounted solar PV parks under construction are Lawns Solar Farm, Winkburn Solar Farm, Gammaton Solar Farm, Cowley Complex, and Gonerby Solar.

These projects are set to hold a total annual capacity of 300,000MWh of renewable power to provide sufficient electricity to 85,000 households while eliminating 58,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

Ameresco West/Europe general manager and executive vice-president Britta MacIntosh said: “We are thrilled to partner with Sunel as Sonnedix converts its UK project pipeline to deliver positive clean energy results that will benefit many individuals across the UK."

Sunel Group CEO Konstantinos Zygouras added: “Projects like this reignite our passion and dedication to our mission, which is rooted in providing world-class renewable energy projects that support the local communities we serve while making significant improvements that benefit the environment.”

Construction work on the solar portfolio is anticipated to be finished by early 2025.

IoT market for construction set to grow at a CAGR of ~16% by 2027

There is a huge opportunity for wearables in the construction industry. Several start-ups operate in this space: for example, Proxxi protects users from getting electrocuted, and Plinx uses proximity sensors for social distancing. Wearables can also improve communication channels between field and desk workers. As digitalization develops, wearables will become synonymous with construction work.
