The Hong Kong Government Highways Department (HKSAR) has chosen American infrastructure consultant AECOM to deliver the Tsing Yi-Lantau Link (TYLL), a new road connecting Lantau Island and Tsing Yi in Hong Kong.
This project is expected to expand the capacity of and fulfil upcoming traffic demands from the Northern Metropolis development.
AECOM Asia CEO Ian Chung said: “We are excited to leverage our world-class technical excellence in delivering innovative, technology-enabled long-span and speciality bridge solutions on this impactful project.
“This work builds on our extensive experience in roadway projects and will further strengthen the resilience of Hong Kong’s road network.”
The TYLL intends to provide an alternate route to the Lantau Link for vehicles travelling between the New Territories North West constituency and urban areas.
It aims to connect the planned North Lantau Interchange and Tsing Yi Connection through two long-span bridges crossing Ma Wan Fairway and Kap Shui Mun Fairway.
To provide design and project supervision for the long-span bridges, AECOM’s multidisciplinary team will coordinate various work such as civil and geotechnical engineering, installation of road and drainage systems, electrical and mechanical engineering, as well as landscaping.
With completion expected in a phased manner through 2033, the TYLL is intended to deliver economic benefits by enhancing connectivity to and from Hong Kong International Airport and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.
