US-based infrastructure consultant AECOM has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Boryspil International Airport for the redevelopment of the airport in Ukraine.

With this MoU, AECOM will operate as the reconstruction delivery partner for Boryspil International Airport, as well as support the rehabilitation of Ukraine’s aviation industry in general.

The scope of works to be undertaken includes asset condition and capability assessment, design engineering, programme management, and construction management.

Furthermore, the company will support the development of a programme management capability for the nation’s aviation sector’s restoration.

AECOM CEO Troy Rudd said: “With our programme management and aviation capabilities, we look forward to working with Boryspil International Airport to restore this strategically important airport and Ukraine’s aviation sector.”

Boryspil, Ukraine’s largest airport, is located in Kyiv and handled almost 9.5 million passengers before the shutdown of Ukraine’s airspace at the onset of the current Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Boryspil International Airport director general Oleksiy Dubrevskyy said: “The memorandum marks another important milestone for the recovery of Ukraine’s aviation sector and is part of the global plan for restoration and modernisation of national airports and the aviation industry, which was developed under the auspices of the Ministry of Community, Territory and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine.”

Earlier this week, South Korea-based Posco International and the governor of Mykolaiv in Ukraine, Vitalii Kim, also signed an MoU to build a new steel modular manufacturing facility in the country.
