The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has signed a financing agreement for the initial phase of the Social Housing Program in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, West Africa, as reported by WAM.
This marks the fund's first venture into the country, with a commitment of Dh183.5m ($50m) towards the construction of 25,000 housing units.
This project represents ADFD's dedication to fostering sustainable development within Côte d’Ivoire and the wider African region.
The signing ceremony saw the participation of ADFD director general Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi and Côte d’Ivoire Housing and Urban Planning Minister Bruno Nabagné Kone.
Côte d’Ivoire Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, Côte d’Ivoire United Arab Emirates (UAE) ambassador Vacaba Diaby, and other dignitaries were also in attendance.
Al Suwaidi said: “This strategic partnership marks a transformative move towards addressing the housing challenges faced by low-income families in Côte d'Ivoire, reflecting our commitment to advancing international development cooperation. By investing in critical infrastructure projects like this, we strive to promote sustainable economic and social development across Africa and globally.”
Beugré Mambé acknowledged the UAE and ADFD for their support.
The project underscores the inception of a partnership to deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.
