GRAHAM, a Northern Ireland-based construction company, has provided an update on the progress of A164 & Jock’s Lodge Junction improvement scheme in East Yorkshire, England, UK.

Earthworks are set to recommence between the Skidby roundabout and Dunflat Road following the installation of pre-earthworks drainage systems.

To date, the project has prepared the site by stripping and storing 11,000m³ of topsoil and will now excavate and relocate 26,500m³ of soil to facilitate the construction of the new northbound carriageway.

The diversion of Yorkshire Water mains over a stretch of 475m has paved the way for earthworks to restart this month, aiming to elevate the new carriageway to the level of the existing A164 road.

An earthmoving operation is also underway from the A1079 south to the A164, involving the transfer of 80,000m³ in a cut-and-fill process.

The scheme's design includes seven new attenuation ponds, three of which are nearing completion, to store surface water and mitigate the risk of localised flooding.

Meanwhile, construction of the new A1079 roundabout is advancing, with the southern section reaching capping level and drainage works in progress.

The Bentley Bridge is also taking form, with concrete pours finalising the bridge's abutment foundations.

These foundations are expected to support the bridge stems and deck.

The wingwall foundations are also under construction, with an estimated 50 tonnes (t) of reinforced steel and 300m³ of concrete set to be used.

By late 2024, the structure is expected to be complete, involving 193t of reinforcement and 1,500m³ of structural concrete.

The foundation is designed to support the 82t beams that will form part of the new northbound A164 carriageway.

Earlier this month, GRAHAM Construction celebrated the practical completion of the second building at the Candleriggs Square site in Scotland.
