A joint venture (JV) between the STRABAG subsidiary Züblin and BAM Deutschland AG has secured a contract from Bau- und Liegenschaftsbetrieb NRW for the construction of a new JVA Willich I prison in Germany.
The new prison is planned to be built as per the modern prison standards and it will replace the outdated, partly dilapidated existing buildings from 1900 to 1905 years, most of which were demolished in advance.
Located in Willich-Anrath, Germany, the building with a gross floor area of 63,661m² will increase the capacity from 400 to 768 prison places for male prisoners and will be constructed according to the increased space requirements.
The project will involve the construction of two detention houses, a multi-purpose building, a workshop building with a gym, a sports field, connecting corridors as well as a parking lot.
Royal BAM Group, the parent company of BAM Deutschland, said that the project will be built in two phases and will be completed in about five years period.
The first phase will include the construction of a new prison house 1 on the former site of the JVA Willich II (women’s prison) by mid-2023.
