Pacific Retail Capital Partners (PRCP) and Synergy Construction have initiated the redevelopment of Yorktown Center in Lombard, Illinois, marking the beginning of a transformative project for the suburban Chicago, US, area.

The partnership is demolishing the former Carson’s store to make way for a new integrated lifestyle hub on a 12-acre site.

The plan for the vacant department store includes the addition of housing to alleviate supply constraints in the region, as well as the creation of The Square, an approximately one-acre green space/community park.

This new development, surrounded by approximately 600 residential units and new exterior-facing shops and restaurants, aims to blend residential and retail life seamlessly.

The Square will serve as a vital link, connecting the new development with the existing Yorktown Center.

In collaboration with the Village of Lombard, PRCP and Synergy have aligned their design and strategy with the community’s vision for the area.

Yorktown Center is a mixed-use destination, which attracted retailers such as The Fresh Market, Tapville Social, Empire Burgers + Brew, Dave & Buster’s, and Ancho & Agave.

The first phase of the project, set for completion by mid-2026, will see the demolition of the Carson’s space, the start of construction on the residential towers, and the opening of the The Square.

This redevelopment is part of PRCP’s larger strategy to repurpose real estate to meet the needs of the next generation, leveraging its redevelopment expertise and partnerships with entities such as Synergy.

PRCP development executive vice-president Jonathan Rood said: “We are pleased to have broken ground at Yorktown which will ultimately result in multiple multifamily buildings and The Square, and are deeply appreciative of the support The Village has provided us throughout this process.”
