Finland-based construction company YIT and the municipality of Siilinjärvi in the country have entered into an agreement to build and maintain two life cycle concept schools.
YIT is in charge of the project’s design, execution, and its 20-year service period post-construction, with this service period involving accountability for the properties’ optimal energy consumption.
The value of the contract is estimated at €73m.
YIT will register this contract in its order bookings for this year’s third quarter.
The project comprises the Ahmo school centre, which will consist of a secondary and upper secondary school, along with the Siilinjärvi primary school.
The properties’ total floor space is approximately 18,000m², with the facilities set to accommodate approximately 1,260 students.

The Ahmo school’s multipurpose hall is set to be the largest in the municipality, allowing for competition-level volleyball, as well as other spectator sports with its large grandstand.
Construction is scheduled to start this year, with the schools set to be completed in stages between 2025 and 2027.
In June, YIT was chosen as the implementation phase partner for Prysmian Group’s sea cable tower in Finland.
