PLP Architecture has announced the start of construction on Building 2, a 50-storey residential tower featuring 250 apartments in London, England, UK.

The tower is situated within the Bankside Yards mixed-use development, along the South Bank of London’s River Thames.

Building 2 is expected to become the tallest new residential building in Central London.

Planned for completion in late 2026, the tower will join Arbor, the estate’s flagship office building, which has already achieved more than 50% occupancy since its completion in early 2023.

Residents of Building 2 will have panoramic views of Central London and proximity to the South Bank’s cultural offerings, including Shakespeare’s Globe, Tate Modern, and the Southbank Centre.

The overarching Bankside Yards project, encompassing 1.4 million square feet, is said to be one of London’s most ambitious projects.

With a gross development value of £2bn ($2.53bn), the project is the first fossil fuel-free major mixed-use development in the UK. Its electricity consumption will be derived from fully renewable sources.

PLP Architecture said it developed the master plan for the Bankside Yards development, which is being delivered in phases for the Native Land-led consortium.

The consortium comprises Amcorp Properties and Singapore-based developers Hotel Properties and Temasek.
