UK-based Hyndburn Borough Council has confirmed that construction activities at Wilson Sports Village in Clayton-Le-Moors, England, are set to resume this month.
Universal Civils & Build will deliver the £12m ($12.25m) project’s completion, having been selected by Alliance Leisure, the council’s development ally, through the UK Leisure Framework.
The new contractor took control of the construction site earlier this week.
Work was progressing well at the site but came to a halt on 20 September 2024 when the lead contractor ISG went into administration, affecting many construction projects across the UK.
The site came back into council control on 27 September and since then the council and Alliance Leisure have been working to restart site work.
Work on the sports village, which is approximately 45% complete, is set to formally restart on 27 January 2025.

The project aims to retain the existing mature tree line and woodland paths, ensuring no net loss of green space.
The development, in collaboration with Sport England and its £2.4m investment, will feature a variety of amenities, including a 25m swimming pool, fitness suite, and dedicated changing rooms.
It will also incorporate sustainable energy solutions such as air-source heat pumps and solar panels, aligning with Hyndburn Council’s net-zero 2030 goal.
The UK Leisure Framework, managed by Denbighshire Leisure and led by Alliance Leisure, will oversee the delivery of the project in consultation with Hyndburn Borough Council and Hyndburn Leisure.

In a separate development, Hyndburn Borough Council announced that Mercer Hall in Great Harwood has secured £370,000 in funding for its next phase of redevelopment. This encompasses £250,000 from the Community Ownership Fund and £120,000 in capital investment from the council itself.
The funding will support restoration work at the site, including the installation of a new dance floor, creating a space for future generations to enjoy.
Hyndburn Leisure board chair Ciaran Wells said: “This funding brings us another step closer to the exciting future we’ve all envisioned, and I can’t wait to see these plans come to life.”
