Willmott Dixon Interiors is set to begin works to enhance and expand the accident and emergency (A&E) facilities at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, England, UK.

The company will undertake the overhaul of the hospital’s Millennium Wing for University Hospitals Sussex National Health Service Foundation Trust (UHSussex).

The works mark the second stage of an £11m ($14.14m) project, which was secured through the public sector procurement framework provider SCAPE.

UHSussex capital development and property deputy director James Millar said: “We’re pleased to progress to the next stage of a project that will greatly enhance the emergency department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

“The trust’s investment in the Millennium Wing is part of a much broader commitment to improve standards and deliver a better hospital environment for patients and staff. It will enable patients to access emergency care as quickly as possible.”

This acute floor expansion is designed to provide healthcare amenities and bolster the capacity for critical patient care in the A&E department.

The project will involve the demolition of all current internal walls, ceilings, and flooring.

Willmott Dixon Interiors will also oversee a complete mechanical, electrical, and plumbing strip-out and replacement.

Additionally, the refurbishment will encompass new furniture, fixtures, equipment, and decoration.

In line with its commitment to social value, Willmott Dixon Interiors has pledged to engage in a series of community- and hospital-benefitting activities throughout the project’s delivery.

Willmott Dixon Interiors COO Roger Forsdyke said: “Over recent years, we’ve enhanced multiple healthcare environments on behalf of UHSussex.

“We’re proud to continue our successful partnership with the trust and to deliver facilities at Royal Sussex County Hospital that will improve services, increase capacity and enhance the experience for staff and patients.”

This announcement follows Willmott Dixon’s selection for the £27m redevelopment of Cheadle College, part of the Trafford & Stockport College Group, earlier this month.
