Willmott Dixon, a contracting and interior fit-out group, has completed the redevelopment of Therapia Lane Depot in Sutton, UK.
The redeveloped facility at Therapia Lane is now equipped with 11 new electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
The depot serves as the hub for Sutton’s waste collection and street cleaning vehicles, reducing the reliance on fossil fuels.
Before the redevelopment, the site was not used as a vehicle depot, and Sutton’s waste services operated from nearby areas, resulting in increased travel time and fuel costs.
The project was secured through the Procurement Hub Framework.
Willmott Dixon South managing director Richard Poulter said: “This project reflects our commitment to sustainability and innovation. By targeting a BREEAM [Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method] ‘Very Good’ standard, integrating energy-efficient systems, and supporting electric vehicle infrastructure, we’re setting a new benchmark for environmentally responsible facilities.

By GlobalData“We’re proud to contribute to Sutton’s greener future with a modernised depot that meets the needs of today while planning for tomorrow.”
The depot project aligns with the London Borough of Sutton’s strategy to accommodate future growth to increase properties in the area.
By redeveloping the depot, the borough can now reportedly sustainably manage waste and street cleaning services for its population, which aligns with its drive to attain borough-wide net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.
Since 2021, Sutton’s council has been sourcing fully renewable electricity for its estate, promoting energy efficiency measures among residents, and collaborating with local businesses to facilitate their transition towards net-zero operations.
Sutton Council Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee chair and councillor Christoper Woolmer said: “This totally rebuilt depot at Therapia Lane ensures that the council can continue to reduce waste, switch to a circular economy and work towards a net-zero carbon future for Sutton. Under the previous contract, the council used depots in Croydon and Merton.
“Having a dedicated Sutton depot will cut travel times from the depot to Sutton homes and disposal sites, as well as reduce vehicle emissions. This is a big step forward in making Sutton cleaner and greener.”
Earlier this month, Willmott Dixon was appointed by the UK’s Oldham Council to construct a new Visitor Centre and Forestry Skills Centre at Northern Roots.
