Wichita City Council in Kansas, US, has selected a new design-build team to develop a new Minor League baseball stadium.
The council selected a team comprising DLR Group, JE Dunn Construction, EBY Construction, Schaefer Johnson Cox Frey Architecture and Professional Engineering Consultants to build the $75m stadium.
The new ballpark will replace the already-demolished Lawrence-Dumont Stadium and serve as the home field of the local baseball team New Orleans Baby Cakes, reported Kansas.com.
Commenting on the new contract, DLR Group senior associate and sports designer Tom Tingle said: “The architectural character of the ballpark will be simple, elegant, and timeless. Our design will celebrate surrounding elements, including the riverfront and future development, to create a true entertainment district the community can enjoy for generations.
“From millennials to corporate sponsors to families, our design will appeal to the diverse clientele visiting the new ballpark in Wichita and deliver an unforgettable game-day outing.”
Pre-construction works on the stadium are scheduled to begin soon, with ground-breaking expected in February next year.
