Lane, the US subsidiary of Webuild Group, has been awarded a $110m contract to construct the Newport News Segment of the Interstate (I)-64 Hampton Roads Express Lanes (HREL) in Hampton, Virginia, US.
The Virginia Department of Transportation commissioned the Newport News Segment construction process.
This development is intended to enhance traffic flow and provide additional travel options on one of the US’ key interstate motorways.
It involves widening and reconfiguring a 10.2-mile stretch of I-64 from Bland Boulevard to the I-664 interchange (exit 264).
The current high-occupancy vehicles (HOV) lane in each direction will be transformed into an Express Lane, maintaining the three free general-purpose lanes.
The project will convert one general-purpose lane into an Express Lane in each direction for the 1.3 miles between the I-664 interchange and Armistead Avenue, alongside the two remaining free general-purpose lanes.
