UK-based developer and manager of residential rental properties Watkin Jones will develop 295 new homes in St Helens, England, for housing provider Torus.
This project, which will be partially funded by Homes England, aims to regenerate a brownfield site in St Helens as part of a larger master plan, with earlier phases already underway.
Watkin Jones will lead the next phase, delivering homes in a mix of affordable tenures, including social rentals, with two-, three-, and four-bedroom family homes alongside mews-type properties and apartments.
Specifically, the latest project will add 140 affordable homes, encompassing 111 for shared ownership, 20 for social rent, and 24 as rent-to-buy properties.
Following the project’s completion, Torus will manage the development.
The location is within walking distance of St Helens’ town centre and a railway station offering connectivity to Liverpool, Manchester, and Glasgow.

Watkin Jones aims to deliver a fossil-fuel-free site with fully electric heating, aligning with its environmental, social, and governance goals.
Watkin Jones group investment director George Dyer said: “We are delighted to be working with Torus to deliver 295 homes in St Helens. The scheme will provide affordable housing across a variety of tenures, and will allow residents to benefit from high-quality housing offering good sustainability credentials.
“Like many towns across the country, there is a clear shortage of affordable housing in St Helens, so we are excited to be partnering with Torus, an organisation that has consistently demonstrated its dedication to addressing the housing challenges across the region.
“Delivering residential homes remains a key element of our overall residential strategy, and we look forward to growing our partnerships further in this space.”
This project follows Watkin Jones’ recent finance agreement for a 397-bed student accommodation project in Stratford, London, UK, marking its first collaboration with Housing Growth Partnership.
The forward sale of the Stratford development includes working space and commercial units, arranged with Housing Growth Partnership.
