The design-build team comprising Walsh Construction Company II and Stantec is set to deliver the new $135m Consolidated Headquarters Complex (CHQC) for the California Military Department (CMD) in the US.
The new 285,000ft² CHQC will be responsible for command and management of the CMD.
Occupying a 31-acre site next to Mather Airport, the multi-building campus will host a headquarters, warehouse, emergency operations centre, utilities building, badging centre, and access control point.
For the project, Stantec is providing services such as architecture, interior design, ZNE consulting, sustainability, energy modelling, landscape design, acoustics, lighting and security.
The project design is led by the company’s office in Chicago, in partnership with global expertise from other offices in Sacramento, Van Nuys, San Francisco, San Diego, Petaluma, Seattle and Atlanta.

The CHQC project is a large-scale new ZNE project and is targeting LEED Gold certification.
It will be constructed to achieve various sustainable goals to reduce environmental impact, optimise performance, decrease energy and operating costs, conserve resources, and increase occupant satisfaction and productivity.
A photovoltaic array that will serve as a parking shade structure will be in place to generate on-site renewable energy.
As part of the design, the facades are articulated with a combination of brick veneer, metal panels, and fenestrations. The facility is scheduled to open in 2020.
