UK-based Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust has selected construction group Interserve to serve as the preferred bidder for its redevelopment programme.
Under the £36m programme, Interserve is responsible for a major upgrade of the emergency department at Walsall Manor Hospital.
The project is part of the Department of Health’s ProCure22 (P22) Framework intended for the development and delivery of NHS and social care capital schemes in England.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust finance director and senior responsible officer Russell Caldicott said: “This is the biggest capital project in our pipeline and we are delighted to be working with Interserve Construction on it, whom we believe have the right expertise to and are able to deliver real value for us.”
As part of the project, Interserve Construction will handle various operations, including deploying new infrastructure, designing and constructing a new two-storey emergency department, as well as redeveloping the existing A&E facilities.
The scheme at Walsall Manor Hospital is expected to increase capacity and support the Trust’s integrated model for emergency care services.
