Viva Wyndham Resorts has commenced construction of a new 750-room oceanfront hotel in Miches, Dominican Republic.

The start of construction on the first stage of new resort, named Viva Wyndham Miches Resort, was made possible with a $60m investment.

Work on the resort will commence with construction of a 486-room family hotel, which is expected to be completed in 2023, followed by development of second 264-room units that will begin at a later date for adult market.

The new hotel is anticipated to be completed in 2023 and is expected to create 500 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect positions.

Viva Wyndham Resorts president Ettore Colussi said: “For Viva Wyndham, this resort marks a new period of expansion in the tourism of our country and the region.

“It adds us to the development of Miches and opens the door to later participating in the Pedernales tourism project, as well as the international sector, in Jamaica.

“Because we believe in the country and we trust the government that runs it, we are here today starting the first of the two hotels to be built in this tourist complex.”

The initial phase of the new resort will include 9,182ft2 of pool area, three buildings, a commercial-use building, a nightclub, outdoor spaces, gym, and à la carte restaurants and buffet

It will also include an amphitheatre with 1,100 people capacity, three bars, ice cream parlour, a café, room for events, and space dedicated for Viva Club members.

Antonio Imbert has been appointed for architecture and Kuky Silverio Industrial Engineering as the main construction firm.
