Veidekke has signed a contract with Bane NOR Eiendom to embark on the Trondheim Station (Trondheim S) construction project in Norway.

This project includes 234 apartments and a new terminal building.

The Nkr980m ($92.9m) collaborative design-and-build contract, exclusive of VAT, will be recorded by Veidekke in its order book for the first quarter of 2025.

The development is expected to enhance Trondheim’s urban landscape, with a focus on sustainability and improved public transport facilities.

Veidekke Bygg Trøndelag regional director Torgeir Wiig said: “We appreciate the commission and are looking forward to extending the good partnership with Bane Nor Eiendom after an excellent interaction phase.

“We are on track with the new terminal building and a large office building at Trondheim S, both of which will be completed before the end of the year. This makes it a good fit for us to proceed with the next construction stage.”

Veidekke will develop a new station quarter that spans two blocks, encompassing a total area of 38,000m² at the train station in Trondheim.

The project also includes the construction of 5,500m² dedicated to retail and office spaces facing Gryta, a new regional covered bus terminal with direct access to the central station, and a public bicycle facility to accommodate 500 bicycles for travellers.

The basement level at the site will feature parking for 140 cars. Above this, from the third level, two residential complexes will be constructed, offering 234 apartments distributed across several buildings ranging from three to six storeys.

The project aims for high sustainability ratings and will be certified under the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology-NOR Very Good environmental standard.

Bane NOR Eiendom project director Dag Haugdal said: “Trondheim S is one of Norway’s most ambitious hub projects, creating a modern and vibrant district with seamless mobility.

“With new homes, workplaces and better public transport solutions, we are strengthening the city’s accessibility and contributing to sustainable urban development. We are pleased to have Veidekke on board in this extensive project.”

Construction is set to commence in mid-2025, with completion expected in two stages at the beginning and end of 2028.

Earlier this month, Veidekke secured a contract from real-estate developer Lumber to build an environmentally certified office building in Vågsbygd, just outside Kristiansand, Norway.
