Veidekke has been awarded a contract by the Swedish Transport Administration to undertake the reconstruction of the Muggebo-Tjos section of the E20 road past Mariestad, Sweden.

The project is a performance contract valued at approximately Skr843m ($81.7m). It is anticipated to reach completion in late 2028.

The project involves rebuilding a 12km stretch of the E20 along its current route, with an additional new section bypassing Mariestad.

Veidekke Anläggning regional manager Peter Svenningsson said: “I’m pleased that we also won the second section of the project for the E20 past Mariestad and thus have the opportunity to extend the good partnership we have with the Swedish Transport Administration in the ongoing construction contract.”

Designed for speeds of up to 100km/h, the upgraded road will feature two-by-two lanes and median separation via guardrails.

Furthermore, the project includes the reconstruction of the Brodderud interchange and the creation of a new Hasslerör interchange at the intersection of the E20 and road 26.

The project is strategically linked to Veidekke’s ongoing construction contract, the Hindsberg-Muggebo section, and extends northward to the connecting road between road 26 and Hova.

This initiative is one of the three remaining sections of the E20 development aimed at improving road safety, fostering regional growth, and enhancing transport conditions on one of Sweden’s key thoroughfares.

The contract for the E20 road reconstruction has been recorded in Veidekke’s first-quarter 2025 order book.

This award follows Veidekke’s recent contract acquisition from OBOS to build the Oen circular housing project in Oslo, Norway.

In November 2024, meanwhile, the company made a contract with Fornebubanen for the construction of new metro stations at Lysaker and Vækerø in Norway.
