Veidekke has secured a $120m (NOK1.14bn) contract from Fornebubanen to construct a tunnel on the 2.35km section running from Lysaker in Bærum to Vækerø in Oslo, Norway.
The contract value, which excludes VAT, will be included by the company in the second quarter.
Veidekke Anlegg director Neal Nordahl said: “At Veidekke we take pride in building projects that provide such indisputable added value to society. This is sustainable urban development, and we have a client who has proven to be open to good input both in terms of execution and the environment. We appreciate the confidence shown in us and look forward to finally starting the work.”
Construction of the tunnel will be carried out through a lateral section (side tunnel) at Lilleaker.
The contract involves crucial injection work given the tough geology and a crossing under the Lysaker river.
Fornebubanen project manager Andreas Finstad said: “We are of course pleased that all the necessary decisions are in place so that we could sign the tunnel contract with Veidekke today. They have submitted a solid and worked-through offer and have an experienced and competent team.
“Together we will establish safe and good project execution, so that the tunnel section can be delivered within the framework of the Fornebubanen project.”
Tunnel driving work from Lysaker is expected to begin from September, while work at Vækerø is set to begin in October 2023.
Preparations at Lysaker will begin immediately, with work planned to be completed in May 2025.
