Veidekke has been awarded a design-and-build contract by Telge Fastigheter to construct new care homes in Södertälje’s Lina district in Sweden.

The contract, valued at Skr256.5m ($22.72m), was secured through a public procurement process.

The decision to build the new facility was made by the municipal council last March.

Design work on the project is set to commence this month, with the completion of the project targeted for mid-2027.

Telge Fastigheter official Tobias Stridsberg said: “We are now finally starting the next phase in the development of this important project for Södertälje. Veidekke has submitted an offer that meets the requirements of our request, and we look forward to working together to realise this modern care facility project.”

The project is part of Södertälje Municipality’s efforts to address the demand for nursing and care homes in Lina.

The new five-storey building with a basement will be situated near Lina’s city centre, residential areas, and natural spaces.

Veidekke’s assignment also includes installations and foundational works for the project.

The project will feature approximately 80 apartments tailored to the needs of the older population, along with a commercial kitchen, indoor and outdoor communal spaces, and parking for vehicles and bicycles.

The site’s design consists of three interconnected sections around a central stairwell that ensures ample daylight within the building.

Spanning a gross area of 7,800m², the facility will also meet the Miljöbyggnad 3.1 Silver certification standards.

Veidekke executive Frida Täcklind said: “We are very pleased to have been entrusted with this project. Veidekke has extensive experience in building community buildings such as senior housing. We now look forward to providing Södertälje’s elderly with modern, high-quality homes, based on the latest practice.”

This contract will be reflected in Veidekke’s order book for the first quarter of 2025.

Last month, Veidekke’s Danish subsidiary, Hoffmann, secured a four-year framework agreement with the Danish Building and Property Agency for design-and-build projects.
