Scandinavian contractor Veidekke has secured a contract from real-estate developer Lumber (Skeie Eiendom) to construct an environmentally certified office building in Vågsbygd, just outside Kristiansand, Norway.
The project, named Lumber 5, is a turnkey contract valued at more than Nkr160m ($14.73m) excluding VAT.
The development will encompass approximately 6,600m² across seven floors.
The building aims to achieve Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method-NOR Very Good certification and will be energy class A. The building’s design focuses on circular and sustainable material use, with flexibility in its floor plans.
The structure will incorporate glued laminated timber, and the exterior will be finished with pine heartwood, complemented by solar panels on the roof.
The ground floor of Lumber 5 will feature a canteen, laboratory, workshop, warehouse, and auditorium that can accommodate approximately 60 people.
Additionally, a gym with changing rooms will occupy the building’s second floor. The remaining levels are intended to provide adaptable office spaces tailored to the requirements of future tenants.
Construction is set to begin immediately, with a completion target set for mid-2026.
The contract for this project will be accounted for in Veidekke’s order reserve for the first quarter of 2025.
Veidekke Bygg Agder district manager Atle Monan said: “Environmentally and climate-friendly projects are something we greatly appreciate being able to carry out. It is particularly nice to have a new customer in Skeie Eiendom with such a strong and clear commitment to sustainable and innovative construction projects.
“We look forward to a mutually good collaboration and thank you as nicely as we can for the project and the trust.”
Skeie Eiendom CEO Tom Bredesen said: “We continue the construction of sustainable buildings and have emphasised Veidekke’s experience with this and the company’s implementation ability.
“This is building number five in our development of Lumber Teknopark, which will accommodate a total of 58,000m² of commercial space.”
Last month, Veidekke was selected to construct a new city hall in Holmestrand, Norway, which will cover 5,950m² over four floors.
Earlier this month, the company was awarded a contract for the reconstruction of the Muggebo-Tjos section of the E20 road in Sweden.
