American real estate developer Urban Renaissance Development (URD) has announced its plans to build more than 200 build-to-rent (BTR) homes in the Atlanta University Center (AUC) district in Georgia, US.
The developer is specifically focusing on constructing market-rate rental homes that will bolster existing communities surrounding the multiphase project.
The project will employ modular designs and off-site building methods in order to save time, money, and reduce waste and disruption throughout the process.
URD co-founder and manager John E Williams said: “The overarching goal of URD is the revitalisation and flourishing of the neighbouring residential communities comprising the AUC.”
The area is said to have lost approximately 60% of its residents over the last two decades, with roughly three-fourths of the district’s properties either unoccupied or inhabitable.
URD co-founder Brian King added: “We believe this will be the most meaningful noncontiguous infill development in the AUC district in decades.

By GlobalData“Despite its rich heritage and significance to the Black community nationwide, this area has been neglected long enough. It’s time to bring these empty lots back to life.”
The Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the $5bn Centennial Yards redevelopment project, a 50-acre complex offering residential, retail, dining, and entertainment options, are both within walking distance of the project.
URD co-founder Bernard Felder noted that the company is pursuing self-performance and partnership strategies to attract investment and collaboration with finance development partners to support its efforts in the project.
