The University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) and the University of Nebraska Medical Centre (UNMC) have celebrated the ground-breaking for a new Rural Health Education Building in Nebraska, US.
The new facility will address the need for additional healthcare providers in the state’s rural communities.
Situated on the UNK campus, the facility is expected to develop Nebraska’s rural healthcare workforce by facilitating more students to study and practice.
UNK chancellor Doug Kristensen said: “The Rural Health Education Building will be a game-changer in this respect, serving a crucial role in filling shortages in all medical professions across Nebraska.”
UNMC chancellor Jeffrey Gold added: “This project – a public-private partnership to strengthen Nebraska’s rural healthcare workforce – will create many new opportunities for students who want to both pursue and practice their health careers in rural Nebraska.”
This $95m facility will include classrooms, simulation and clinical skills laboratories for pre-clinical education and clinical situations, as well as simulated primary care areas.
