UK Government’s Department for Transport has announced over £43m funding for A38 upgrades in Worcestershire.
The project seeks to ease congestion, ensure smooth commute for locals and also create thousands of jobs.
According to the department, works on A38 will support as many as 1,100 new jobs and development of 5,500 new homes to help the local communities cope with the cost of living.
This, in turn, is expected to generate nearly £93m in economic benefits for locals residing in the Midlands.
While the total cost of the project is £49.8m, the Department for Transport will provide funding worth £43m and Worcestershire County Council will provide the remainder.
The project is part of the government’s investments to boost local transport infrastructure, including £5.7bn for future local transport projects across England.
The works will be taken up on a 7.5mile stretch, between M5 Junction 4 to the north and the A38/B4094 to the south.

By GlobalDataVital works to be taken up include installation of new lanes at main junctions and widening of the existing road. This will ensure smooth traffic flow in the region.
The A38 currently experiences significant congestion during the weekday rush hour, with severe delays at junctions and unreliable journey times affecting local residents’ ability to travel and get to work.
Transport Minister Baroness Vere said: “I know local residents in Worcestershire have been affected by congestion along this key route for too long.
“That’s why we’re investing more than £43 million, providing a huge boost to the area’s economy and ensuring people can get around the region quicker and easier – whether that be for work, education or to see family and friends.”
