Property regeneration specialist U+I has assigned construction firm GRAHAM to deliver a new commercial hub for start-up and SME businesses as part of the £200m Preston Barracks redevelopment project in Brighton, UK.
The initial phase will see the construction of a 50,000ft² building as part of the overall Preston Barracks project.
Designed by architects Studio Egret and tp bennett, this project will feature 369 new homes, 534 student beds, shops, cafes and workshops.
The wider masterplan includes student accommodation and academics in two sites of the University of Brighton. The masterplan is estimated to deliver more than 1,500 new jobs and generate £281m into Brighton & Hove’s economy over the next decade.
GRAHAM plans to construct a BREEAM Excellent rated seven-storey concrete-framed workspace building, which is expected to be completed by the end of next year. It will provide flexible workspaces, prototyping facilities, events spaces and a roof garden.
U+I development manager Sarah Chitty said: “We are excited to be underway with the construction of Preston B Development arracks, delivering a project that will breathe new life into a derelict site, and will support the economy, academic life and growth of Brighton.
