Timberlab, a subsidiary of Swinerton, has partnered with Swinerton Builders, Lindgren Development, LEVER Architecture, and others to design and construct a 190,000ft² cross-laminated timber (CLT) manufacturing facility in Oregon, US.
The facility will be constructed with glue-laminated timber produced at Timberlab’s other Oregon facilities.
It is supported by a Wood Innovations Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service, which supports full-mass timber buildings.
Timberlab has invested in equipment from Kallesoe, including a complete CLT processing line, to ensure the delivery of timber products.
Upon completion by the end of 2026, the facility is expected to produce between seven and nine million square feet of CLT annually.
It will create approximately 100 direct living wage jobs and numerous indirect jobs, contributing to the region’s economic growth and fostering a workforce dedicated to sustainable construction, Timberlab stated.
Located in the Pacific Northwest’s Mass Timber Technology Hub, the facility is claimed to benefit from strategic positioning for collaboration with academic research programmes.
Partnerships with Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and the Tall Wood Design Institute will leverage local resources to drive advancements in mass timber construction.
Swinerton, through its subsidiary Swinerton Builders, has been into mass timber construction since 2014. The company opened its first mass timber fabrication facility in Portland, Oregon, in 2020 and a year later Timberlab was launched.
