The Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in the US state of New York has celebrated a ground-breaking ceremony for its new Tiger Stadium.
The ceremony was attended by RIT students, faculty, and staff.
The project, valued at $30m, will serve as the home ground for the RIT’s men’s and women’s lacrosse and football teams.
The stadium is expected to open in late 2025.
RIT Intercollegiate Athletics executive director Jacqueline Nicholson said: “This achievement marks a pivotal moment in our journey to revitalise our athletic facilities and provide unparalleled experiences for our student-athletes, campus community, alumni, and the vibrant Rochester community.
“Tiger Stadium will stand as a premier outdoor venue, distinguished by its size and configuration. It will elevate our athletic programme, setting us apart from our competitors and leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.”

Tiger Stadium is the latest development in a series of upgrades to the RIT’s athletic infrastructure.
The initial phase of the enhancement project involved relocating the outdoor track facility and introducing new all-weather artificial turf fields for the institute’s baseball and softball teams in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Upgrades such as new scoreboards and lighting have set the groundwork for Tiger Stadium.
