Music venue and hospitality company Venu has received approval from El Paso City Council to build the Sunset Amphitheater in Texas, US.

The more than $80m project will undergo development via a public-private partnership involving the City of El Paso and Venu.

Construction is scheduled to commence later this year, with an anticipated opening for the 2026 touring season.

The city council has also approved a $30.6m performance-based economic incentive package.

This package includes the conveyance of approximately 17 acres of city-owned land for the development of the amphitheatre, and more.

Venu chair and CEO JW Roth said: “El Paso is a city with a vibrant community and visionary leadership. With the city’s approval of our development plans, we’re excited to bring this world-class music venue to El Paso.

“The Sunset at El Paso represents a true collaboration between the public and private sectors, and we’re honoured to support the city’s forward-thinking leadership, beginning with mayor [Oscar] Leeser.”

The venue will have a 12,500 capacity with audiovisual capabilities, as well as diverse food and drink options.

It will also comprise a range of seating choices, including fire pit suites, mid and lower-bowl sections, and a landscaped hydrochill grass berm.

An exclusive Owner’s Club will be situated on the edge of the Sunset Amphitheater.

Projected to generate more than $5.4bn in economic impact for El Paso, the Sunset Amphitheater is expected to support over 2,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Last year, Venu commenced construction on the Ford Amphitheater in Colorado Springs, Colorado, US.

This is expected to open on 9 August 2024.
