Suir Engineering, a European engineering services provider, has announced the acquisition of Taylor & Fraser, a Scottish mechanical and electrical engineering company with a history spanning more than 100 years.

This move is part of Suir Engineering’s strategic UK expansion, following the recent establishment of its first UK offices in London and Manchester.

The acquisition strengthens Suir Engineering’s local presence in the UK, enhancing its capability to serve clients and seize new business opportunities within the country’s competitive engineering sector.

Suir Engineering CEO John Kelly said: “The acquisition of Taylor & Fraser is part of our ambitious growth strategy.

“The team brings with it a wealth of mechanical and electrical engineering (M&E) expertise, and an outstanding legacy built over three generations of this highly regarded family business.

“The acquisition strengthens our presence in Scotland and across the UK, allowing us to build on established local market relationships while providing a platform for future growth.”

Taylor & Fraser, with its headquarters in Paisley, has been a family-run business for 114 years, delivering M&E services to a diverse range of public and private-sector clients.

Suir Engineering claimed this acquisition positions it as one of the few Irish engineering contractors with a Scottish entity.

Despite the change in ownership, Taylor & Fraser will continue to operate under its existing name, with no impact on its 180 employees.

With headquarters in the Republic of Ireland and operations across Europe, Suir Engineering reported a turnover of €429m ($440.90m) in 2023.

The company has seen growth through 2024 and forecasts revenues of €550m for 2025. This forecast is partly attributed to the Taylor & Fraser acquisition, a robust project pipeline, and a strategic talent acquisition programme.

A significant portion of this forecast revenue is expected to stem from data centre projects.

Kelly added: “The UK’s ‘Great Grid Update’ represents a major shift in infrastructure development with significant buildouts planned for on and offshore projects.

“This presents a significant opportunity for companies like ours, which is why aligning Suir Engineering with a company of Taylor & Fraser’s calibre is crucial to our business, alongside establishing a physical presence to support our market penetration.”
