Network Rail has appointed England-based construction company Story Contracting to develop a new railway station in the UK.
This station will be built on the Neilston line south of Barrhead and will be situated between Patterton and Neilston stations, along Balgraystone Road.
The site’s plans comprise parking along with bus and active transit lines.
The proposed new station will be called Balgray since it will be located near the Balgray Reservoir.
The new station will be built in collaboration with East Renfrewshire Council and funded by the Glasgow City Region City Deal.
It is expected to improve public transport connectivity between Barrhead, the Dams, Darnley Country Park, and Glasgow.

By GlobalDataScotland Railway managing director Alex Hynes said: “New stations have the potential to transform the communities they serve, support growth in travel for work and leisure, and provide opportunities for local people by improving connectivity, in this case, primarily into Glasgow.
“Scotland’s Railway will work closely with East Renfrewshire Council over the coming months to prepare the design plans for the new station.”
Preliminary work on this proposed station location is currently underway.
East Renfrewshire Council leader Owen O’Donnell said: “It’s great to see work progressing on the Glasgow City Region Deal-funded rail station in Barrhead.
“This station will bring huge benefits for the existing community in Barrhead as well as residents from the new housing developments nearby, providing improved access to jobs, education, and services.
“It also allows for a much-improved public transport link to Dams to Darnley Country Park.”
