Canadian design firm Stantec has won a full-service architecture and engineering contract for a new student housing development in Western Michigan University’s (WMU) campus in Kalamazoo, US.
The target occupancy date of the $45m project is scheduled for August 2020.

The new development is set to be positioned along the Stadium Drive and will provide space in a living-learning capacity for students to support a reinvigorated South Neighborhood community.
Stantec senior associate and project director Travis Sage said: “We are thrilled to be working with WMU again to transform the South Neighborhood and to create a new, dynamic presence for the university along Stadium Drive.
“We are proud to build on our history with WMU, including Sangren Hall and the Zhang Legacy Collection Center.”
Design work is expected to commence immediately.
Stantec is also engaged in several student housing development projects across the US and Canada, which include Academies of Loudoun, University of Lethbridge – Science and Academic Building, and the public-private partnership (P3) student housing projects at Texas Women’s University and University of California, Davis.
The company has already completed a number of education projects during the last six months such as the American University’s Don Myers Technology and Innovation Building; the net-zero Lagos Elementary School in Manor, Texas; and Tarleton State University’s Applied Sciences Building.
