The construction of the St John’s CE Academy secondary school in Grove, Oxfordshire, has been awarded to Bouygues UK, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction.

The £28.2m ($36.9m) project has been chosen by the UK’s Department for Education (DfE) on behalf of the Vale Academy Trust.

The new St John’s CE Academy will be situated adjacent to the existing primary school in Grove, making it the first institution in the area to provide education from nursery through to secondary level for approximately 600 pupils.

The two-storey building, designed by Stride Treglown, will utilise sustainable materials, notably a cross-laminated timber frame, and feature a green roof with photovoltaic (PV) panels.

The school’s construction will also prioritise environmental considerations, with the inclusion of sustainable drainage systems to manage rainwater effectively.

The aesthetic appeal of the building will be enhanced by a combination of brick and wood panels, and aluminium features for the entrances.
