SRV has signed an agreement with Senate Properties for the construction of the Kuopio Main Police Station in Finland.  

Senate Properties is the client and developer of the project. 

The project, valued at approximately €70m ($76.13m), will follow a spearhead alliance project model. 

It will be recorded in SRV’s order backlog once the final decision on its construction has been confirmed. 

The sourcing of designers for the Kuopio Main Police Station will commence immediately, with general planning set to begin in late 2024 and continue until early 2025.  

Following the planning phase, a decision will be made regarding the transition to the construction phase.

An endorsement from the Finnish government’s Ministerial Finance Committee along with a decision on financing the lease by its Ministry of the Interior is required. 

Approval of the investment, as well as permission to commence construction by Senate Properties’ board of directors, is also needed.  

Construction of the Kuopio Main Police Station is anticipated to start in 2025, with the aim of opening the facility in early 2028.  

Spread across a total gross area of roughly 15,300m², the new main police station is expected to offer operational and logistical advantages, as well as more efficient use of space.  

SRV project director Harri Martin said: “SRV will take a life cycle-wise approach to the construction of the police station, which will be reflected in the materials, energy solutions and other solutions to support biodiversity. 

“During the development phase, the parties will work together to find the technical implementation solutions that will best meet the project’s objectives. Special attention will be paid to implementing optimal low-carbon solutions.” 

The design and implementation of the project are being guided by the latest EU taxonomy criteria. 

In addition, the P1 cleanliness classification for construction work and the M1 emissions class for construction materials will be employed to meet the building’s indoor air quality targets. 

The latest announcement comes after SRV and the City of Helsinki reached an agreement to expand the Myllypuro Health and Well-being Centre building earlier this month.
