The Western Australian (WA) Government has announced that its Spoilbank Marina project in the town of Port Hedland has achieved another significant construction milestone.

The last stage of development for the landside component and landscaping is currently underway.

This is said to be the state’s largest project to date and comprises the development of marina roads, car and caravan parking, retaining walls, pathways, public facilities, shade structures, and barbeque areas, as well as the installation of utilities and affiliated services and landscaping.

Minister for Ports David Michael said: “Local businesses and contractors are very much involved in transforming the Port Hedland waterfront through this project, which will create an attractive place for the community and visitors to gather and relax.”

Australian real estate builder and construction company Ertech has been granted a contract to undertake construction works.

The A$187.5m Spoilbank Marina project is a significant election pledge from the Labor-run WA government. It is jointly financed by the state government, the Town of Port Hedland, and BHP.

The marina boat ramps are scheduled to open later this year, with the remaining marine and landside sections to be completed next year.

Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade Roger Cook said: “The Spoilbank Marina has long been a dream for the Hedland community, and it is fantastic to see this transformational project come to life.

“This final stage of construction will deliver a vibrant and culturally rich community amenity for locals and visitors to enjoy, ensuring the entire community benefits from the development of the marina precinct.”
