Project development and construction company Skanska has secured a contract to construct the Ulvsunda Sports Center in Bromma, Stockholm, Sweden.

The contract, valued at approximately Skr640m ($60.56m), has been commissioned by S:t Erik Markutveckling, part of the City of Stockholm body.

The contract encompasses both the construction of the sports centre and the modernisation of its technical infrastructure.

The Ulvsunda Sports Center will occupy the site of the former Pripps brewery.

Due to its cultural and historical classification, the old brewery building is set to be preserved, including both its exterior and some internal features.

Spanning about 25,000m², the new facility will accommodate various indoor sports, including handball, basketball, floorball, and volleyball.

Additional spaces are planned for activities such as table tennis, dancing, wrestling, fencing, and judo.

The project will prioritise incorporating recycled materials and sustainable practices.

Specifically, lighting fixtures, sanitary ware, doors, bricks, and suspended ceilings will be reused and the site’s event hall will feature 2,000 refurbished bleacher seats.

Construction will employ cross-glued wood for stands and stairs, replacing traditional steel ventilation ducts with textile alternatives.

Construction is expected to commence soon, with completion anticipated in late 2026.

The contract is scheduled to be included in Skanska Sweden’s second-quarter 2024 order bookings.

Last month, Skanska secured a contract with the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) to undertake the deconstruction of the MARTA Five Points Station canopy in US.

The scope of work includes the removal of the current prestressed concrete canopy and the demolition of the plaza area to accommodate a new mass timber canopy.
