Skanska has secured a contract to construct a tram depot for City Transport in Helsinki, Finland, with the project valued at €252m ($264.79m).

The contract will be recorded in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024.

The depot, covering 41,000m², will accommodate approximately 50 trams, providing facilities for their maintenance, cleaning, and repair on a daily basis.

An alliance consortium, with Skanska as the main contractor, will undertake the construction. The consortium includes City Transport, Sipti Infra, Sweco, Rejlers, and Arkkitehtityöhuone APRT.

The project aims for the depot to achieve a Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) Outstanding certification, focusing on reducing carbon footprint and enhancing energy and resource efficiency.

Construction is set to commence in Q1 2025 and is expected to be completed by Q2 2029.

Recently, the company was awarded a significant venture in Täby Park, outside Stockholm in Sweden, comprising 156 apartments and 75 parking spaces within a garage, along with two premises, with a contract value of approximately Skr350m.

The venture will feature climate-improved concrete, and the buildings are designed to consume 15% less energy than the current Boverket building regulation requirements.

Skanska has also been awarded a contract worth approximately Skr300m for site preparation at Årstafältet in Stockholm, focusing on ground and utility work, including landscaping elements.

This contract was signed with the Exploitation Office of the City of Stockholm.
