Skanska has secured a contract, valued at $102m, to rehabilitate State Route 78 in San Diego County, California, US.
The contract was issued by the California Department of Transportation.
Skanska’s scope of work includes building an eastbound acceleration lane and rehabilitating over 40 lane-miles of the road’s surface structural section.
Additionally, the project encompasses the construction of new kerb ramps compliant with Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
It also covers the installation of upgraded Midwest Guardrail systems, beyond gore paving, as well as new bridge barriers.
The State Route 78 State Highway Operations and Protection Program project will focus on the stretch from Interstate 5 (I-5) to nearly one mile east of I-15.
Upon completion, the project is expected to enhance roadway safety and operational standards.
Construction is set to commence in April 2025 and reach completion by December 2026.
Skanska, a project development and construction group, operates across Europe and North America.
The latest contract comes on the heels of Skanska’s agreement with the Municipality of Landskrona in Sweden to build a football stadium and an indoor swim centre.
The new 6,800-capacity stadium will be suitable for top-division matches.
Meanwhile, last month, Skanska reached a contract with Sutter Health in the US and received another contract in Vesterøya, Norway.
The US project will transform an existing 60,000ft² office building in Pleasanton into an ambulatory surgery centre and a speciality clinic while the project in Norway involves the construction of a 9,400m² school campus.
