Skanska, a construction and project development company, has signed a substantial Skr780m ($72m) contract with Northern Kentucky University in the US for campus renovations.

The contract will focus on expanding the Dorothy Westerman Herrmann Science Center, enhancing the university’s science, technology, engineering and mathematics provisions.

The development involves building a 79,925ft² addition to this existing science centre.

The new space is designed to centralise various academic programmes at the university, including Biological Sciences, Physics, Geology & Engineering Technology, Chemistry & Biochemistry, and Engineering Technology.

The project also encompasses minor renovations to the current science centre.

Site preparations commenced in October 2024, with the project’s start anticipated for the first quarter (Q1) of 2025. The expected completion date for the campus renovations is August 2027.

The contract will be included in Skanska’s US order bookings for Q1 2025.

Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, Skanska Group, with revenues totalling Skr177bn in 2024, operates in select markets within the Nordics, Europe, and the US. The company employs a workforce of approximately 26,300.

Earlier this month, Skanska secured contracts for two additional projects, one in the US and another in Norway.

Last month, meanwhile, Tata Steel appointed Skanska to provide civil and structural design, as well as project management services for its electric arc furnace project at Port Talbot in the UK.
