Skanska, a construction and development company, has secured an additional contract with Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, Oregon, US, for an expansion project.

The contract, valued at $153m, will enhance the hospital’s capacity and services.

This agreement will be reflected in the company’s US order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2024.

The project encompasses a four-storey, 16,900m² addition to the existing hospital.

This expansion will include an enlarged emergency department, advanced operating rooms, and more spacious patient rooms.

The expansion is designed to enable Columbia Memorial Hospital to offer new services and incorporate the latest medical technology to meet the health needs of the community.

The total value of Skanska’s contracts for this project now stands at $227m, including a previous contract signed in July 2024 worth $74m.

Construction commenced on 6 September, with a projected completion date set for November 2027.

This development follows Skanska’s agreement with Harris Health System to construct a new healthcare facility in Texas, US, this month.

The $54m project, which includes a four-story building for the Harris Health Central Fill Pharmacy and associated departments, is expected to be completed by May 2026.

Skanska also entered into a joint venture (JV) with McCourt Construction and AETNA Bridge Company for another project in the US.

This JV received a design-build contract with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation for the I-95 15 Project, spanning Providence, Cranston, and Warwick, Rhode Island.

The total contract value stands at $625m, with Skanska’s share being $417m.
