Skanska has signed a Skr1.2bn ($109.8m) contract with NKT HV Cables for the second phase of construction and installation at NKT’s cable factory in Karlskrona, Sweden.
The project aims to advance the distribution of renewable electricity in Blekinge and Sweden. This contract will be included in Skanska’s order bookings for Sweden in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2024.
The existing collaboration between Skanska and NKT, initiated in July 2023, is now supplemented by this additional contract.
The new agreement comprises construction and installation for the tower building and associated side buildings.
Earlier contracts included time-critical work worth Skr300m signed in December 2023, and the first phase of construction worth Skr700m signed in July 2024, with completion expected by 2025.
The second phase of construction and installation will begin immediately, with a planned completion date of May 2026.
This development is part of NKT’s investment to enhance technological advancements in the region, contributing to the renewable energy sector.
In a separate development, Skanska has secured a Skr300m contract with the City of Stockholm’s Exploitation Office for site preparation work at Årstafältet, south of Stockholm.
This project, also included in Skanska’s Q4 order bookings for 2024, focuses on ground and utility work, including soil reinforcement, utility installations, and service road construction.
The site preparation work for the project is scheduled to commence in March 2025 and is expected to reach completion in Q1 2028.
Additionally, Skanska has been awarded a €252m contract to construct a tram depot for City Transport in Helsinki, Finland.
The depot, spanning 41,000m², will accommodate approximately 50 trams, providing facilities for maintenance, cleaning, and repair. Construction will begin in Q1 2025, with expected completion by Q2 2029.
