Skanska Balfour Beatty, the joint venture between Sweden-based Skanska and UK-based Balfour Beatty, has secured a contract worth $351m for office improvements in the US.

Of the $351m, Skanska’s portion is worth $175m, which will be recorded in the US order bookings for Q1 2021.

The contract has been signed with an existing client to refurbish its corporate office in western US.

Construction has already commenced and is expected to be completed in July 2023.

In another development in the US, the Swedish firm, as part of a joint venture with RJ Industries, has been contracted to replace wastewater resource facility sewage pump system in New York, the US.

The contract was signed with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP) for the replacement of sewage pumps, ancillary equipment and other structures at the Coney Island Waste Water Resource Facility in New York’s Brooklyn area.

The total contract is worth $108m, and Skanska’s portion of the contract is $76m (about SEK640m). Skanska will include this value in the US order bookings of Q1 2021.

Works commenced in February 2021, with completion expected in February 2025.

Swedish construction company Skanska has managed to carve a niche in the construction and project development market in the US. It specialises in civil infrastructure, building construction and the development of commercial properties in select US markets.

Skanska USA reported sales of SEK66bn in 2020, and has around 7,600 employees.
