Siemens Gamesa has broken ground on an expansion of offshore nacelle plant in Taichung, Taiwan.
The offshore nacelle plant is the largest manufacturing facility of its kind in the country.
This extension will more than triple not only the plot area up to 90,000m2 but also the count of people working locally for Siemens Gamesa.
The expansion will widen the production scope with the development of two new production halls and a new warehouse.
Siemens Gamesa offshore business CEO Marc Becker said: “We are thrilled to triple our activities in Taichung and to be leading the Taiwanese offshore revolution. Having been present locally since our first offshore installation in 2016, followed by the opening of our Taipei office in 2017, we greatly appreciate the clear pipeline of projects and visibility of market plans which are available.”
The expanded facility will feature production lines for hub assembly, nacelle backend assembly, and final nacelle assembly including generator-associated work.

By GlobalDataSiemens Gamesa plans to begin the assembly of SG 14-222 DD offshore turbine nacelles in Q2 2024.
This expansion opens up an opportunity for Taiwanese suppliers to feed more than 10,000 components directly to the facility.
The facility expects to provide locally manufactured nacelles for the 1,044 MW Hai Long offshore wind power project, future projects for the country’s Round 3 offshore wind power auctions as well as other projects in the Asia Pacific region.
Siemens Gamesa Offshore for Asia Pacific general manager Niels Steenberg said: “Since our Taichung offshore nacelle plant opened in Taiwan in 2021, Siemens Gamesa has proudly provided the first locally assembled nacelles. They stand tall in the Taiwan Strait and deliver clean power to the grid.
“With the factory expansion, we are looking forward to leveraging this local footprint together with the Taiwanese supply chain, building a regional offshore wind manufacturing powerhouse based in Taiwan.”
The company will train its first batch of Taiwanese employees in Europe, commencing October.
The first 21 employees will have 15 months of training in Europe.
Construction of Phase I of the facility commenced in April 2020, with the country’s first locally assembled offshore wind turbine nacelle delivery undertaken in August 2021.
