Seymour Whyte, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction in Australia, has secured two contracts with a combined value of approximately A$340m ($231.87m).  

The company is set to upgrade road infrastructure in both Sydney and Melbourne. 

In Sydney, the company will enhance a 3.8km segment of Mamre Road, located to the west of the city and in proximity to the forthcoming international airport.  

The project entails converting the current two-lane road into a four-lane thoroughfare, complete with a central median to facilitate the future addition of two more lanes.  

Additionally, a noise barrier will be erected as part of the upgrade.

Environmental measures are being prioritised, with plans to use reclaimed asphalt pavement for approximately 40% of the project’s needs and to recycle other excavated materials on-site.

The completion of the Sydney project is anticipated for 2028. 

In Melbourne, meanwhile, Seymour Whyte is tasked with the enhancement of Clyde Road for Major Road Projects Victoria.  

The scope of work includes adding an extra lane in each direction, broadening the Clyde Road bridge, and improving existing intersections.  

Set for completion by 2027, this project will also incorporate an assessment of greenhouse gas emissions and will use solar or hybrid energy for facilities and equipment, in line with the ‘Recycled First’ policy. 

Seymour Whyte is currently engaged in several other road projects across Australia such as the modernisation of a section of Mulgoa Road in Sydney and the extension of the M1 Pacific Motorway that connects Sydney and Brisbane. 

Earlier in May this year, Australia Pacific Airports (Melbourne) entrusted Seymour Whyte with a construction contract for the Melbourne Airport development project.  

The A$159m contract involves constructing a 550m bridge over 18 spans, designed to separate public and commercial vehicle traffic at the site.
