Seby, a subsidiary of Veidekke, has secured a contract from Nedre Romerike Avløpsselskap (NRA) to construct a biogas plant at Krogstad in Lillestrøm municipality in Norway.

This is a design and build contract, worth $20.8m (NOK205m), excluding VAT.

Seby general manager Bjørn Ove Liavaag said: “We’re looking forward to starting up an interesting environmental project for NRA. To us as a contractor, it’s motivating to build a future-oriented production plant for climate-friendly biogas, and we really appreciate the confidence shown in us and the contract.”

The production buildings of about 6,000m2 in size will feature a process building, sludge reception, dewatering building and administration building.

Construction of the project will commence in August 2022, and its completion is slated for June 2024.

The biogas plant will receive sludge from a separate treatment plant and several other treatment plants in the eastern part of the country.

From the sludge, the plant will extract biogas, which will be further upgraded to green hydrogen.

Once operational, the plant will ensure sustainable management of sewerage sludge, claimed NRA.

“Hydrogen production is an important environmental measure and a right step on the way to a circular economy, so this is a measure to meet the future and contribute to the green shift. Construction work will be carried out with minimal impact on the natural environment.
