Sand Ridge Constructors, a joint venture of Granite and W.W. Clyde & Co., has been awarded the $16.5m construction manager part of the 5600 South Progressive Design Build (PDB) project from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) in the US.
The construction contract of the project is expected to be worth $155m, with Granite taking $93m of the total.

Granite included the construction manager contract in the 2021 fourth quarter CAP.
Scope of the project includes widening of around three miles of 5600 South in Roy from three to five lanes, with work featuring hot mix asphalt (HMA), utilities, curb-gutter-sidewalk, cast-in-place barrier, and mechanically stabilised earth walls.
The project involves construction of six bridges – one above grade crossing, two new mainline I-15 interchange bridges, one pedestrian bridge, one off-ramp bridge over railroad, and one collector-distributor bridge.
Around 85,000t of HMA for the project will be supplied by the Ogden West Haven HMA plant.

“We’ve worked extensively with their project teams and built a lot of mutual respect and trust. In addition, it is a win for Granite to secure another large progressive design build (PDB) project as our current PDB, US-89, is winding down.”
The construction manager phase is expected to begin this month, with construction anticipated to commence in Q2 2023.
