Ground has been broken on San Diego Airpark, an airport redevelopment project at Brown Field Municipal Airport on the US’ West Coast.
San Diego Airpark, LLC, under a lease agreement with the City of San Diego, is set to construct the aviation and commercial facilities.
The development is expected to unfold in four phases over a 20-year period, with the first buildings anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025.
The first phase of the San Diego Airpark development is estimated to cost $100m, with the entire project cost being covered by the developer, San Diego Airpark, LLC.
San Diego Airpark will be developed on 331 acres of land at Brown Field Municipal Airport. The airport opened in 1918 and was initially named East Field.
San Diego mayor Todd Gloria said: “Today marks a significant, long-awaited milestone for Brown Field Airport, Otay Mesa and the entire San Diego region. The new San Diego Airpark will transform this underused airport into a hub of economic growth and employment, creating thousands of jobs and fostering international trade.
